Star Wars: The Acolyte’s release year has been officially confirmed by Lucasfilm. The Acolyte, an upcoming Star Wars TV series created by Leslye Headland, was one of the projects presented at Star Wars Celebration 2023 during the Lucasfilm Studio Presentation panel. Star Wars has a strong lineup of upcoming TV shows releasing in 2023 and 2024, including stories that have been set up over a decade ago, like Ahsoka. That said, The Acolyte is Star Wars’ most exciting new series precisely because of how little is known about it. Set in the High Republic, The Acolyte will explore a Star Wars era that no live-action production has visited. In fact, excluding the children-oriented Young Jedi Adventures, there are not even animated Star Wars shows during the High Republic time period.
By going back 100 years before the events of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, The Acolyte is giving live-action Star Wars something that has been lacking for a while – a chance to explore multiple Jedi and dark side warriors at the same time. During the Star Wars sequels, for example, there were only a handful of characters who could use the Force, and in the Mandoverse, Luke Skywalker is the only true Jedi. The Acolyte, on the other hand, gets to show the Jedi Order at its height.
