"Like Somebody Playing With Action Figures": Michael Shannon Calls General Zod Role In The Flash Unsatisfying*

Michael Shannon was brutally honest about how unsatisfied he was about the end results of his General Zod return in The Flash. Barry Allen is returning to cinemas as of this week, with Ezra Miller reprising the role of the DC icon in The Flash movie. While being a loose adaptation of Flashpoint, The Flash movie will tackle the multiverse, bringing some blasts from the past back.
One such return is that of the DCEU's first supervillain, as Michael Shannon is coming back as General Zod in The Flash, following his appearances in Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. In an interview with Collider, Shannon opened up more about portraying the iconic Superman foe one last time. While many are excited about the multiverse aspects of The Flash movie, the DCEU veteran had a different experience, as Shannon didn't feel it was "quite satisfying" for him as an actor, stating the following:
Yeah. I’m not gonna lie, it wasn’t quite satisfying for me, as an actor. These multiverse movies are like somebody playing with action figures. It’s like, “Here’s this person. Here’s that person. And they’re fighting!” It’s not quite the in-depth character study situation that I honestly felt Man of Steel was. Whether people think that’s crazy or not, I don’t even care. I really felt like Man of Steel was actually a pretty sophisticated story. I feel like The Flash is too, but it’s not Zod’s story. I’m basically there to present a challenge.
