Extraction 2 Director Has "Some Ideas" On Which MCU Characters He"d Like To Direct*

Having worked in the franchise before and with multiple of its veterans, Extraction 2 director Sam Hargrave teases his hopes of returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe behind the camera. Prior to making his directorial debut on the Chris Hemsworth-led Netflix movies, Hargrave was well-known for his stunt coordination and second unit directing on many high-profile action projects, including the Hunger Games franchise and, more notably, Captain America: Civil War, Deadpool 2 and both Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame.
While speaking exclusively with Screen Rant for this month's Extraction 2, Sam Hargrave shared his thoughts on directing an MCU project. Though keeping mum on who exactly he'd want to work with, the director eagerly expressed his interest in getting behind the camera for the comic book franchise, especially after his previous discussions to direct episodes of The Mandalorian fell through for "different reasons." See what Hargrave said below:

Would I direct a Marvel movie? I would definitely entertain that possibility. The closest I got into that kind of Marvel/Disney world was helping them over there, and in talks to do some stuff, with The Mandalorian and some of those seasons, maybe direct some of that. That just fell through for different reasons, but I haven't been approached directly. But I would love to have a talk with him, have a sit down and find — the important thing would be for me to find a character that I could have a specific and unique point of view on. I wouldn't want to just rehash, because they've done such a great job, that canon of films they've created is so classic, you would have to have something additive to bring to that world that was special and unique. Otherwise, I would say just don't don't even touch it. But that said, I have some ideas, and I would love to talk with him, so if you're listening, Marvel, my phone number is — no, I'm kidding. [Laughs] I'm not gonna put it out there yet. I'm going to keep that one close to the vest, but you guys would definitely know if it ever comes to light. You guys will be the first to know.

Why Hargrave Is Perfect For The MCU Not only does the now-director have a prior tenure in the franchise, but Hargrave has worked on some of the most important and iconic sequences in the MCU. Over seven years after hitting theaters, Captain America: Civil War's airport battle remains a standout from the movie, along with the three-way brawl between Chris Evans' eponymous hero, Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man and Sebastian Stan's Winter Soldier. At the same time, Avengers: Endgame's fight between Hemsworth's Thor, Cap and Josh Brolin's Thanos is a crowd pleaser for its culmination of character setups and tense back-and-forth.
